Bringing home a new car, bike or scooter is a happy occasion, and many families like it to arrive on an auspicious day. This tool shows the vehicle purchase muhurat — the shubh muhurat to buy a car or bike — for your city, from today to the end of next year, grouped by month. Each date shows the weekday, nakshatra, tithi and the auspicious time window, and it works for any vehicle: car, two-wheeler, tractor or commercial vehicle.

- Weekdays: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
- No muhurat during: Adhik maas, Bhadra (Vishti karana)
These dates are calculated by the standard rules above. Panchang makers differ slightly, and many also check lagna shuddhi and the person’s own chart — confirm the final muhurat with your purohit.
What is vahan kray muhurat?
Choosing a good day to acquire a vehicle is an old tradition — once for horses, carts and chariots, today for cars and bikes. Where marriage and griha pravesh favour fixed nakshatras, a vehicle is meant to move, so its list leans on chara (movable) nakshatras — Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha — and kshipra (swift) ones — Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta — along with the gentle Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati and Rohini.
How the tool finds the dates
Choose your city from about 215 in India and abroad (Delhi is the default). Each day, from local sunrise to the next sunrise, is checked against:
| Rule | What is required |
|---|---|
| Nakshatra (13) | Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Revati |
| Tithi | Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Shashthi, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Trayodashi, Purnima |
| Weekday | Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday |
| Bhadra | Vishti karana hours are removed from the window |
| Excluded periods | Adhik maas only |
Unlike marriage, griha pravesh or mundan, there is no seasonal ban on buying a vehicle: Kharmas, Chaturmas, Holashtak and planetary combustion do not stop it, so most months have several dates. Tuesday, Saturday, the rikta tithis, Ashtami and Amavasya are not used.
Booking, delivery or first drive?
Tradition gives most weight to taking delivery and the first drive. Many people book whenever convenient and take delivery in the muhurat window. Choose the city where you will collect the vehicle, shortlist two or three dates, and plan the delivery, puja and first drive inside the window. This tool does not remove Rahu Kaal; if you avoid it, check Rahu Kaal today and the Choghadiya. Some panchang makers also check the lagna, the buyer’s chart or Moon strength, so a date may differ; for a big or commercial purchase, confirm with your purohit.
Popular days to buy a vehicle
- Dhanteras — Kartik Krishna Trayodashi, two days before Diwali, a traditional day to buy metal, gold and vehicles.
- Akshaya Tritiya — Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya, regarded as an abujh (self-auspicious) muhurat.
- Pushya nakshatra — about once a month; Guru Pushya on a Thursday and Ravi Pushya on a Sunday are especially prized.
- Vijayadashami and Navratri — popular for new beginnings and vahan puja.
The tool checks these days by the same rules as any other, so Dhanteras falling on a Tuesday, say, will not appear. Many people still buy on Akshaya Tritiya without a separate muhurat, following tradition — either approach is fine.
A simple vahan puja
- Clean the vehicle and park it at home or near a temple.
- Draw a swastik with roli or kumkum on the front and apply a few grains of rice.
- Tie a kalava (mauli) on the steering, handlebar or mirror; add a garland if you like.
- Remember Lord Ganesha; many families also pray to Hanuman ji with the Hanuman Chalisa.
- Do aarti with a lamp or camphor, and offer or break a coconut and share it as prasad. Placing lemons under the wheels is a folk custom, not a rule.
- Distribute sweets and take a calm first drive to a temple or home.
A muhurat is an auspicious beginning, not a guarantee. The real protection is a helmet, a seat belt, sensible speed and regular servicing.
Myths and facts
- No vehicle should be bought in Kharmas or Chaturmas. The standard vahan rules have no such ban, so the tool lists dates in these months; families who keep the custom can follow it.
- Only a Dhanteras purchase is auspicious. Dhanteras is popular, but most months have several good dates — and shorter queues at the showroom.
- A used vehicle needs no muhurat. Traditionally the same muhurat applies to any vehicle you take in your name; it is a matter of faith.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find a muhurat to buy a vehicle?
Choose the city where you will take delivery in the tool above. It lists auspicious dates from today to the end of next year with weekday, nakshatra, tithi and time window.
Is there a separate muhurat for a car and a bike?
No, the same vahan muhurat is used for cars, bikes, scooters, tractors and commercial vehicles.
Which weekdays are good for buying a vehicle?
The tool uses Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tuesday and Saturday are not used.
Which nakshatras are good for vehicle purchase?
Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha and Revati.
Which tithis are good for buying a vehicle?
Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Shashthi, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Trayodashi and Purnima.
Can I buy a car during Kharmas or Chaturmas?
Yes, by the standard rules there is no seasonal ban on buying a vehicle, so the tool shows dates in these months. Only Adhik maas and Bhadra are excluded.
Why is Dhanteras popular for buying vehicles?
Dhanteras is a traditional day for buying metal, gold and new possessions, including vehicles. The tool still checks it by its rules, so it may not appear every year.
Is Pushya nakshatra good for buying a vehicle?
Yes, Pushya is considered one of the most auspicious nakshatras. Guru Pushya (on a Thursday) and Ravi Pushya (on a Sunday) are especially popular.
Is Akshaya Tritiya a good day to buy a car?
Akshaya Tritiya is traditionally an abujh muhurat, so many people buy without a separate muhurat. The tool lists it only if its own rules are met.
Should the muhurat be for booking or delivery?
Tradition gives most weight to taking delivery and the first drive. Booking can be done whenever convenient.

Draw a swastik with roli on the front, tie a kalava on the steering or handlebar, remember Lord Ganesha, do aarti and share a coconut as prasad.
Does the tool avoid Rahu Kaal?
No. It checks tithi, nakshatra, weekday, Bhadra and Adhik maas. Check Rahu Kaal separately if you avoid it.

A muhurat is an auspicious beginning, not a guarantee. A helmet, seat belt, sensible speed and regular servicing are the real protection.
