Ekadashi, Purnima and Amavasya dates are worked out from the tithi at sunrise. Observance rules (e.g. Smarta/Vaishnava Ekadashi) can differ — please check with your priest or local panchang.
This Vrat Calendar lists all the main Hindu fasts and festivals for the next 90 days in one place. It updates itself every day, and dates follow the tithi present at sunrise (udaya tithi).

Fasts included in the Vrat Calendar
- Ekadashi — twice a month (Shukla and Krishna paksha), 24 in a year; 26 in a year with an Adhik month.
- Purnima and Amavasya — for Satyanarayan katha, holy baths, charity and pitru tarpan.
- Pradosh Vrat — on Trayodashi of both pakshas, for Lord Shiva.
- Sankashti Chaturthi — Krishna paksha Chaturthi, Ganesha puja after moonrise.
- Masik Shivratri — Krishna paksha Chaturdashi.
- Major festivals — Karwa Chauth, Diwali, Holi, Navratri, Janmashtami, Mahashivratri and more.
Udaya tithi and Smarta-Vaishnava Ekadashi
Most fasts are kept on the day when the tithi is present at sunrise — the udaya tithi. Some festivals follow other rules: moonrise for Karwa Chauth and Sankashti Chaturthi, Pradosh Kaal for Diwali and Nishita Kaal for Mahashivratri. Our Vrat Calendar applies these rules when it picks the date.
Sometimes Ekadashi spans two days. Then householders (Smarta) fast on the first day and the Vaishnava tradition on the second. In such cases follow your priest or your sampradaya. For the full tithi, nakshatra and muhurat of any day, see Today’s Panchang.
Why dates can differ abroad
Because the tithi is tied to the Moon and sunrise is local, a fast can fall on a different calendar date in India and in the USA or UK. Our Vrat Calendar calculates each date astronomically, so it works for devotees all over the world. Read more about the most popular fast, Ekadashi, on Wikipedia, and see our festival guides for Dhanteras, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj and Chhath Puja.
Frequently asked questions
When is the next Ekadashi?
The Vrat Calendar above shows the next Ekadashi with its name at the top. The list updates itself every day.
How many Ekadashis are there in a year?
24 in a normal year and 26 in a year with an Adhik (Purushottam) month.
How is the date of a fast decided?
Most fasts follow the udaya tithi — the tithi present at sunrise. Karwa Chauth, Sankashti and Diwali follow moonrise or Pradosh Kaal.
Can the fasting date be different abroad?
Yes. The tithi depends on the Moon and sunrise on your city, so in the USA, Canada or the UK a fast sometimes falls a day earlier or later.
Does this calendar include Pradosh and Sankashti?
Yes — Ekadashi, Purnima, Amavasya, Pradosh Vrat, Sankashti Chaturthi, Masik Shivratri and major festivals for the next 90 days.
