How is Manglik Dosh formed?
A chart is considered Manglik when Mars is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Lagna. It is believed that Mars in these houses affects married life — especially the 7th house of the spouse. Many South Indian traditions also count Mars in the 2nd house (family).

Manglik from Lagna, Moon and Venus
- From the Lagna: the main check. A dosh here makes the chart fully Manglik.
- From the Moon: the Moon sign is taken as the 1st house and Mars is checked from it.
- From Venus: Venus signifies marriage, so Mars is checked from it too.
- If the dosh is only from the Moon or Venus, not the Lagna, it is called partial Manglik.

In astrology Mars is the commander — the significator of courage, energy, land, brothers and blood. It rules Aries and Scorpio, is exalted in Capricorn and debilitated in Cancer. Manglik people are often energetic, fearless, hard-working leaders; it is believed that when this intense energy touches houses like the 7th, married life needs more harmony.
Marriage of a Manglik boy or girl
- By tradition a Manglik is best married to a Manglik, as the two doshas balance each other.
- If only one is Manglik, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the other chart is also considered balancing.
- Partial Manglik is considered milder and many astrologers do not see it as a major obstacle.
Why the check needs the time of birth
Mars stays one and a half to two months in a sign, but the Lagna changes every two hours. So of two children born on the same day, one may be Manglik and the other not. That is why the calculator asks for the exact time and place of birth.
