Use this Guru Chandal Yog Calculator to check five traditional Rahu–Ketu yogas in your birth chart at once: Guru Chandal yog, Surya Grahan yog, Chandra Grahan yog, Angarak yog and Shrapit yog. Enter your date, time and place of birth and the tool shows, for each yog, whether it forms, in which house, the degree gap between the two planets and whether it is strong, moderate or mild — along with a North Indian chart and a planet table.
What is Guru Chandal Yog?
In astrology tradition, Guru Chandal yog forms when Jupiter (Guru) and Rahu sit in the same sign. Jupiter stands for wisdom, dharma, teachers and sound judgement; Rahu is the shadow planet of confusion, restlessness and breaking convention. The belief is that Rahu clouds Jupiter’s good qualities, which may show up as confusion in beliefs, decisions or relations with teachers.
Some astrologers also count Jupiter with Ketu, while many treat it as separate and milder — some even read it as a spiritual inclination. The tool therefore shows Jupiter–Rahu as the main yog and mentions Jupiter–Ketu as a separate note.
Names such as Guru Chandal, Angarak and Shrapit come mostly from later astrological tradition rather than classical texts like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and astrologers apply them differently. Treat the result as a traditional indication, not a prediction.
The five yogas this calculator checks
| Yog | Forms when | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Guru Chandal | Jupiter and Rahu in the same sign | Jupiter–Ketu noted separately |
| Surya Grahan | Sun with Rahu or Ketu | Sun: soul, father, status |
| Chandra Grahan | Moon with Rahu or Ketu | Moon: mind, mother |
| Angarak | Mars and Rahu in the same sign | Some astrologers include Mars–Ketu |
| Shrapit | Saturn and Rahu in the same sign | Also called Shrapit dosh |
The Sun and Moon yogas together are popularly called Grahan dosh, because real solar and lunar eclipses happen near the Rahu–Ketu points.
How the calculator works
- Sign conjunction: the sidereal positions (Lahiri ayanamsa) of every planet, Rahu and Ketu are calculated; a yog forms when the two planets share a sign.
- House: the house is counted from your Lagna, so an accurate birth time matters.
- Degree gap: the distance between the two planets sets the strength.
- Jupiter’s dignity: if Jupiter is in its own sign (Sagittarius or Pisces) or exalted (Cancer), the tool notes it, since tradition says this reduces Guru Chandal yog.
| Degree gap | Strength |
|---|---|
| Within 5° | Strong |
| Over 5° up to 12° | Moderate |
| More than 12° | Mild |
What each yog traditionally means
- Guru Chandal: linked with confusion in education, faith or judgement — though many astrologers say it can also make a person an original, unconventional thinker.
- Surya and Chandra Grahan: linked with self-confidence and status (Sun) or emotional ups and downs (Moon). If distress lasts, speaking to a professional is the right step.
- Angarak: linked with haste, anger and risk-taking. It is different from Manglik dosh, which depends on Mars’s house.
- Shrapit: linked with past karma, delays and tests of patience. It is different from Sade Sati, a transit period.

Traditional remedies
- Guru Chandal: worship of Lord Vishnu or Brihaspati on Thursdays, chanting “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”, respecting teachers and elders, and daan of yellow items such as chana dal, turmeric or bananas.
- Surya / Chandra Grahan: offering water (arghya) to the Sun in the morning, and Shiva worship on Mondays with “Om Namah Shivaya”.
- Angarak: Hanuman worship on Tuesdays and reading the Hanuman Chalisa.
- Shrapit: Shani-related seva on Saturdays — helping workers, the elderly and people in need, and daan of oil or black sesame.
Beliefs and facts
- Belief: Guru Chandal yog makes a person go astray. Fact: the rest of the chart, planetary strength, dasha and one’s own actions matter far more.
- Belief: every conjunction in the same sign is equally strong. Fact: a 2° conjunction and a 25° one are not treated alike.
- Belief: these yogas are all ancient. Fact: they come mainly from later tradition, with differing rules.
- Belief: all Rahu–Ketu yogas are the same thing. Fact: Kaal Sarp Yog depends on all planets lying on one side of the axis; these five depend on a single conjunction.
Frequently asked questions
What is Guru Chandal Yog?
In astrology tradition, Guru Chandal yog forms when Jupiter and Rahu sit in the same sign of the birth chart. Rahu is believed to cloud Jupiter’s wisdom and good judgement.

Enter your date, time and place of birth in the calculator above. It shows whether Jupiter and Rahu share a sign, in which house, and the degree gap between them.
Does Jupiter with Ketu count as Guru Chandal Yog?
Some astrologers count it, while many treat it as separate and milder. The tool mentions Jupiter–Ketu as a separate note.
What is Grahan Yog?
Grahan yog forms when the Sun or the Moon shares a sign with Rahu or Ketu — Surya Grahan yog for the Sun and Chandra Grahan yog for the Moon. It is also called Grahan dosh.
What is Angarak Yog?
Angarak yog forms when Mars and Rahu are in the same sign. Some astrologers also include Mars with Ketu.
What is Shrapit Dosh?
Shrapit yog or Shrapit dosh forms when Saturn and Rahu are in the same sign. Tradition links it with past karma and delays.
How is the strength decided?
By the degree gap between the two planets: within 5° is strong, within 12° is moderate and more than that is mild.
Does an exalted or own-sign Jupiter reduce Guru Chandal Yog?
Tradition says yes. When Jupiter is in Sagittarius or Pisces (its own signs) or Cancer (its exaltation), the yog is considered weaker, and the tool notes this.
Are these yogas in the classical texts?
The names Guru Chandal, Angarak and Shrapit come mainly from later astrological tradition rather than texts like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and astrologers apply them differently.
Do I need an exact birth time?
Whether a yog forms depends on the signs, but its house depends on the Lagna, which depends on birth time. An accurate time gives the right house.
What are the remedies for Guru Chandal Yog?
Tradition suggests worship of Vishnu or Brihaspati on Thursdays, respecting teachers and elders, and daan of yellow items such as chana dal, turmeric or bananas.
What is the remedy for Angarak Yog?
Hanuman worship on Tuesdays and reading the Hanuman Chalisa, along with practising patience and calm.
What are the remedies for Grahan Yog and Shrapit Yog?
For Grahan yog, offering arghya to the Sun and Shiva worship on Mondays; for Shrapit yog, Saturday seva for the elderly and needy and daan of oil or black sesame.
How is Guru Chandal Yog different from Kaal Sarp Yog?
Guru Chandal depends only on Jupiter and Rahu sharing a sign, while Kaal Sarp Yog is said to form when all seven planets lie on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis.
Is Guru Chandal Yog always bad?
No. The rest of the chart, planetary strength and dasha matter far more, and many astrologers see it as a sign of unconventional, independent thinking.
